Plans Will Be Announced At A Future Date
The Walter “Ed” Vizthum Scholarship Fund was lined up for a ringer with its third annual Drink ‘n’ Shoes scheduled for this month at Holy Spirit High School but will pitch the horseshoe tournament to the fall.
“In light of the Covid-19 pandemic, both in terms of safety for all participants and volunteers, as well as the economic reality for the small business owners who donate to the event, we’re planning to hold the tournament sometime this fall,” said foundation president Shaun Smith.
“We will announce a date and details about the third annual Drink ‘n’ Shoes Horseshoe Tournament in the future.”
The event, which was held at the Margate Log Cabin for two years is the primary fundraiser for the nonprofit organization which grants scholarships to freshmen students attending Holy Spirit.
To date, the 501c3 nonprofit organization awarded $4,000 to six freshmen students attending Holy Spirit High School for the 2019-2020 school year. Scholarship applications are currently being accepted for the 2020-2021 school year.
Winners of the 2020 scholarship will be announced soon. Donate today.
Walter “Ed” Vizthum was an Absecon native and 2003 Holy Spirit High School graduate. Following his contributions on the football field for the Spartans, Vizthum was well known for his giving spirit in addition to serving his community as a volunteer firefighter and his love of having fun with friends and family.
His large heart gave out just after his 32nd birthday on Aug. 28, 2017. Leaving behind two newborn twin girls and a deep hole in the hearts of his many friends and family members, the Vizthum Scholarship Fund was created to honor his legacy.
